Introduction
This assessment process is for students who are looking to apply for RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning) for the Traffic Management Designer 3 (TMD 3).
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a process that assesses a learner's competency, acquired through formal and informal learning, to determine if they meet the requirements for a unit of study. RPL recognises skills, knowledge and/or experience an individual has gained within and/or outside the formal education and training system and assesses how they meet the requirements for a unit of competency within an Austroads approved skill set.
Target Audience
This Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) assessment covers the skills and knowledge required for obtaining the RIISS00065 – Traffic Management Designer – Motorways and Freeways skill set (Traffic Management Designer 3). This skill set has been created to align to the requirements of individuals responsible for developing traffic management plans and traffic guidance schemes, as described in the Austroads Guide to Temporary Traffic Management on Temporary Traffic Management Category 3 environments.

Learning Outcomes
- Establish context for traffic management plan
- Prepare traffic management plans
- Select, modify or design traffic guidance scheme
- Finalise traffic management plan preparation process
- Support and review traffic management plan implementation
Learning Methods
This 1 day blended session is provided to assist students understand what RPL is and what is required for Traffic Management Designer 3 skill set. The session will consist of the following -
- Overview of Traffic Management Designer 3 (TMD3)
- Competency conversation with a trainer
- Theory assessment
- Localised Content
Once the students has attended, the trainer will review the supplied RPL kits and evidence post session to assess if it meets the course criteria and advise the student of the outcome. This may take 5 - 10 business days to review.
Attending this session does not ensure a student obtaining their SOA via RPL. The outcome is dependent on the evidence the student provides and the knowledge the student has. It is strongly recommended to review the AGTTM prior to attending the session.
