Introduction
This skill set addresses the skills and knowledge required for those responsible for developing Traffic Management Plans (TMP) and Traffic Guidance Scheme (TGS) on Temporary Traffic Management Category 2 environments as described in the Austroads Guide to Temporary Traffic Management.Target Audience
This skill set is for individuals responsible for developing traffic management plans and traffic guidance schemes for Temporary Traffic Management Category 2 roads.
Eligibility Requirements:
To ensure you meet eligibility requirements‚ you'll be required to upload the requested evidence with your online enrolment form. If evidence is not uploaded and/or incomplete, your enrolment cannot be processed, and you will be unable to attend any sessions. As a reminder, eligibility requirements are:
- Be 18 years of age or older.
- Have Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) skills to ACSF level 2 or above (not required if previously completed at CivilEdge).
- Provide a copy of current Traffic Management Accreditation Card.
- Completion of TMD 1 - 'RIISS00063 Traffic Management Designer Skill Set for Urban Streets and Low Volume Rural Roads' (Statement of Attainment)
- Provide current resume with at least 6 months experience applying skills and knowledge relevant to the above-mentioned Skill Set in the temporary traffic management workplace and contact details of 2 referees.
- Provide evidence of relevant experience preparing at least 4 different Traffic Management Plan design types (being both approved by a client and successfully used in practice) including pedestrian and cyclist controls, lane closures, and at least one of the following design types:
- construction sites
- shoulder closure
- high speed roads
- using portable traffic control devices
- roundabouts
- public transport interfaces
- motorways or freeways

- Select, modify or design traffic guidance scheme
- Finalise traffic management plan preparation process
- Support and review traffic management plan implementation
Learning Methods
The Traffic Management Designer 2 (TMD 2) course will run over 1 day. Throughout the day‚ theory-based assessments and activities will be completed.
The assessment comprises both theoretical and practical components. The practical (post-course) assessment requirements must be completed for declared Temporary Traffic Management Category 2 roads within at least 6 months of successfully completing the theoretical component.
Post course – within a 6-month period of completing the theoretical component of the course, the learner will complete 2 Traffic Management Plans and Traffic Guidance Schemes relevant to their working conditions.
PLEASE NOTE - In line with industry and licensing body requirements, all post-course placement hours and assessments must be completed within six (6) months of completing the theory component. Extensions are not available due to currency and regulatory requirements. If you experience genuine extenuating circumstances, you may request a Post Course Completion Review. You must provide valid evidence and, if approved, complete a supervised theory assessment at a cost of $200. Approval is not guaranteed. If approved, a final submission date will be agreed between you, the trainer, and management.
